Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules, on a fess potent counter-potent Argent a bar Azure.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Silver scroll inscribed SAY WHEN in Blue letters.

Symbolism
Scarlet and white are for Engineers; blue is for Infantry.  The wide white (silver) band and the narrow blue band stand for the two-fold mission of the Battalion, i.e., to support by means of engineer work and to perform infantry combat missions when required.  The term potent signifies a crutch, (i.e., a support).

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 30 April 1963.  It was rescinded on 23 February 1980.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Kansas Army National Guard:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Gules, a sunflower slipped Proper.

The coat of arms was approved on 30 April 1963.  It was rescinded on 26 June 1968, when the unit became a flexible battalion.
